Silence
Silence is the sound you hear
when you listen to the forest talk.
This tranquil voice inside your head
that makes you want to walk.
Up on a hill or in a clearing
you destination unseen.
Yet by the time you get there
it's where you want to be.
The sky speaks the sound of silence
along with the rocks and streams.
Upon a ridge when the wind is calm
you hear all that you see.
In times of shouts and yells and whistles
and all the man-made noise,
it's nice to have out our back door
such silent sounding joy.
