What are you listening to?

I'm way too lazy to go find and then bump the old thread, so...

What are you listening to right now?

Me? Nas' Illmatic. The whole album. I heard his new single, "The Don" because Spotify thought it'd be a good suggestion for me and I nearly barfed. WTB old (Jay-Z hating) Nas, please!

Here you go, this is "NY State of Mind" (pt. 1)

South Park Mexican.

I think it's fun to play a character as lovable as Deft while listening to music like that.

Oh, man. I guess it's 90's rap night:

I be hectic and comin' for the headpiece, protect it!

And, Insigniared, I wore my Dimmu Borgir shirt around the other day. (I've had it for like, 10 years now.) I hate that it got bleach stained. I rock it still, regardless!

His 2008 untitled album was the only other one of his that I really got into.

For whatever white-suburban reason I'm more into the whole 'political' rap albums like Pac's Don Killuminati than the typical rap songs.

Eminem's still probably the most played artist on my iPod right now, with possibly the exception of one singer whom I'm too embarrassed to admit. (And I'm happy to admit that I'm Chinese raised in a nice suburb who listens to Tupac)

Oh, I definitely am not into the whole mainstream rap stuff, I guess, with the exception of a couple artists. Want a good flow? Chino XL. He even penned a song called, "Wordsmith" and he is exactly that.

I'm in LOVE with Immortal Technique. Ahem. (Physically, too. Aw yeah.) KRS One is great, too, if you like political/social rap. And, I guess, I do enjoy a lot of rap from the 90s; Mystikal, Method Man, Biggie, Big Pun ...

But this shit nowadays! Gawd. There's this guy my mom's friends with and he always tells me how Nikki Minaj is the best rapper in Young Money. I had to just sit there and guffaw; seriously - she rhymes in the WORST couplets that don't flow because they don't make god damn sense! ARGH.

And, I think it's okay to like Eminem. His flow and stylistic approach are things I really can truly appreciate.

You should confide to me who the singer is that you're too embarrassed to admit is on your iPod, xiaozh... It'd be good to get it off your chest. Here, I'll tell you one of my guilty pleasures: "E.T." by Katy Perry. Over and over again! Granted, it has some sentimental value to it; these two boys that used to roll through the pharmacy drive-thru window with their MILF of a momma sang it to me one night after football practice. But still. Katy Perry. Gah. That is not facilitating the badass image I wish to maintain.

(And I'm happy to admit I am a white girl raised in a nice suburb that listens to all of the above and more. 8) )

God dammit, I can't quit editing. The other album of Nas' that I enjoy a great deal is "I Am..."

Nas is Like: "I'm a poor man's dream, a thug poet: Live it, and I write down and I watch it blow up, y'all know what I'm like, y'all play it your system every night."

I can't put a finger on what it is exactly that turns me off from new rap, but even the rappers I've always liked, their new albums don't appeal to me as much as their old ones did. Maybe it's just me cause "Recovery" was a great album, but it just doesn't have that sentimental draw like "Slim Shady LP" or "Marshal Mathers."

I'm just waiting for the next Tupac album to come out.

Yeah. Nothing spectacular has really come out. E-40's new single isn't bad, but even then ...

Maybe we're just getting old!

Oh yay. A fave.

Currently, I'm listening to a fussing child and an overwhelming silence where thoughts should be. Whoa.
