In case you were wondering...

School Journal

The Corian is the journal of the Geelong Grammar School. Published as The Geelong Grammar School Annual (1875-76), The Geelong Grammar School Quarterly (1877-1913), and The Corian (1914-). Published quarterly since 1877 it reverted to an annual in 1992.

School Song - Carmen Coriense

Salve schola te pia laude efferamus,
pueri et pullae usque te amamus,
O Corio praenitens ludo et labore,
floreas virtutibus, floreas honore.

Amne campo litteris praemium merendo,
corde mente corpore pariter valendo,
sic Corio praenitens laude non carebit,
floreat ut floruit, ut floret florebit.

* Operation Bertram a preparatory deception operation leading up to the Second Battle of El Alamein
* Charles Bertram, English was a literary impostor, who created a forgery in 1747 of a manuscript allegedly written by a nonexistent monk named Richard of Westminster, which "corrected and supplemented" the Itinerary of Antoninus. The work was generally accepted as genuine and had a wide and misleading influence upon many antiquarian writers. A translation of the faked document was included in Bohn's Antiquarian Library as one of the Six English Chronicles as late as 1872.
* Betram of Minden, also Master Bertram, German medieval painter (c. 1340-1414/1415)

And don't forget Prince Bertram: the bad. It's a really great book. well worth the read.

Diana

* Diana (goddess) was the Roman counterpart of the Greek goddess Artemis.
* Diana, Princess of Wales.
* 78 Diana is an asteroid.
* Diana (crater) is a crater on the Moon.
* Diana Krall is a popular Jazz pianist and singer.
* Diana (Sailor Moon), a fictional character in the Japanese anime Sailor Moon. (Diana was the daughter of Artemus and Luna)
* Diana Prince is the alter-ego of Wonder Woman

Diana was the equivalent in Roman mythology of the Greek Artemis (see Roman/Greek equivalency in mythology for more details). She was the daughter of Jupiter and Latona, and the twin sister of Apollo. Both were born on the island Delos.

Diana was the perpetual virgin goddess of the hunt, associated with wild animals and forests. She was also a moon goddess, and an emblem of chastity. Oak groves were especially sacred to her. She was praised for her strength, athletic grace, beauty and her hunting skills. With two other Roman deities she made up a trinity: Egeria the water nymph, her servant and assistant midwife; and Virbius, the woodland god.

Neat.

Bel

* Bel, signifying "lord" or "master", is a title rather than a genuine name, applied to various gods in Babylonian religion. The feminine form is Belit 'Lady, Mistress'. Bel is represented in Greek and Latin by Belos and Belus respectively. Linguistically Bel is an east Semitic form cognate with northwest Semitic Ba‘al which has the same meaning.

Wait, Prince Bertram was known as the Bad? That would explain a few things.

Yep, it's a pretty cool book. More cute than anything. It's about a prince who shoots a long-nosed bird who turns out to be a witch. It's only 32 pages long, but it's a hoot.

It was written by a man named Arnold Lobel, who has actually written a huge selection of children's stories. Including the 'Frog and Toad' series, umm... 'Mouse Soup' and many many others.

Personally, though, I always equated Prince Bertram with Prince Cornellius from Thumbelina.

~Prince Cornelius begs his Mother and Father to delay the frost~

(the odd thing is. His Mother seems fine with the idea, but his Father, is insistent on the frost coming immediately.)
