The face behind the player. . .
If you haven't already seen, or even partook in it, there is a recent post in the Iron Claw Forums labeled " What do you look like?"
I'm just curious, I know our player base is smaller compared to IC, but how much do you think knowing what a player looks like impacts how you play the game? |

I was looking at the ICO thread and I realize it doesn't really matter to me. I think it helps. How? Besides the always growing natural human curiosity to see what is behind the curtain, knowing there is an actual person behind the avatar might help me connect better. I've realized the folks I do know what they look like in CM and other games are all folks I tend to RP with more....just a note on this New Years Eve.

I think the outlook on this situation depends on each person individually. I know when I first started playing, based on how I played my character everyone thought I was a little teeny-bopper. Which, upsettingly, I still look like a teenage, yet I'm in my twentys. No matter how I attempt, I can never 'look' my age; I get called 14, 16, 17 for my looks, when I'm far from it. Do you have problems playing with younger-folk? Does anyone find it a turn-off to play with a younger-folk? If someone look like a youngling, but wasn't, would it bother or effect someone's play? (These questions are dirrected for everyone and you.) Again, I appreciate the feedback, I was and am hoping this can be an interesting topic for people to discuss upon. I'd like to hear what rattles in peoples heads :P |

I don't mind if the player is young, but I think I (the player) finds it hard to RP with younger characters. I know, IC/OOC crossover, but hear me out: I view the avatars we make as different from our Real Life Personas, but for -me- I need to put into each one, an aspect or a tiny bit of myself. I then warp it and make it something else, but at its center there's an initial bond with my characters that lets, actually helps, me RP more effectively. Of course, as the character grows and changes that has nothing to do with my own personalities. My CM Character amazes me at how different he is from me, considering when I made him...we were very very similar. That being said, I find it hard personally sometimes to continue a conversation with characters that are younger in their demeanor. Each person is entitled to RP their characters as they wish, but I find it hard as a player to sit through RP situations when the characters are younger then mine to child-like in persona. There's more to this to articulate, but I wanted to put that out there and then finish with: Having a player base with a range of ages is definitely challenging. People will respond to IC/OOC situations differently, but overall I think diversity of a multitude of characteristics in the players and therefore in the characters provide more unique RP opportunities. Admittedly, I might in situations that are possibly sexually charged (I group flirting into this.) try to be wary of ages. I do not want to enter into scenes that might lead to either difficult outcomes or the matter is adult in nature if -I- feel the collective age level isn't fitting. That being said, I hope it doesn't affect my play and hope I don't treat younger folks any different. Sorry for the ramble, an interesting topic and maybe discussing it openly can help us have more fun in LP. Thanks Dom's Player. |

I must agree with Osric's player!
It's so much easier to remember to be polite to someone when you remember that there is an actual person behind the other side of the monitor. As for letting it gauge who I play with ... I don't really care what they look like. Age IS a little bit important, as I don't feel very comfortable even with my character to form any sort of romantic relationship with another character who's player id quite young. It wouldn't keep my from roleplaying with them, though! |

I like the feedback here. Thankyou Osric, Araine, and Anoura's player.
So I asked the question of playing with someone younger, and you all gave good viewpoints and standards. I think this is what makes our game, such a unique, diverse, and fun atmosphere. I know I asked the question about younger-folk. I'm actually quite curious now on the vise-verse outlook. What do you think of older players? What do you think of Married/Partnered(Partnered as in BF/GF thing) players engaging in romantic plays? |

Not sure if you're asking about people who are married IRL RPing romantic relationships IG or something else.
As for older players, I don't know how to answer this. Am I old? I have no idea. I am married. I'm not in school and haven't been for ....awhile. I hope the same sentiments I said before come back to older players. I also think whats interesting is about older players as in time they've been actually RPing and/or in LP. Thats a core of people that I think should be another tier on the "Go RP pyramid" Tier 1 (top) - Storyplotters and other folks Tier 2 - VPs (Should state this is to active VPs, VPs that are out there but not currently working is not necessarily a good thing) Tier 3 - Veteran Players (not sure how to define this but anyone who is familiar with the game over an extended amount of time) Tier 4 - Experienced RPers, Skotos or otherwise (There's something to be said about having folks engaged who are familiar with the medium) Tier 5 - New Players (After all, none of grow as players, characters or in the setting if we don't have a fresh in flux of minds to helps tell the story.) I think I look very young but I am 22. I hope people realize that. I posted what I look like in the ICO forums. I like to see what people look like.

I like your Pyramid breakdown, and I'm sure many of us view this similarly. Between VPs and Veteran Players, I believe I as a player consider them the same. Least I take the "VP" as a standing for Veteran Player and I also think of it as " V.I.P." only without the 'I', it's a privilege that only few and certain players can gain. Players that gain these, gain them like any other way you get a V.I.P.; by having Professional Skill, Knowing someone, or just Lucky. @Viola I did look at the ICO Forums, and peeked at the photos. Being nosey-nosey. I think we all secretly want to know what others look like. I like seeing how different people look from their characters and how some looks quite similar. |

I've been a Skotos fan for about 4 years now, started on ICO (which seems to be dwindling more now) and I've been interested in getting into RP here, but there never seemed to be people around until now! So I fully plan on sticking around. Besides, if I run out of money I can still play the game I enjoy without worry! ~Hails, aka CaptainUnaMoon |

I've come back to be horrified by my own spelling two years ago!
Also, to follow up with a little welcome to Vesper. We're glad you're sticking around! It's nice to have more people in game to interact with. While small games and small player-bases have their perks, fresh meat is always welcome! Meat, in the figurative sense, of course. Really. To get the fun topic started again, it is awesome to know what a player looks like. It's good to know that there's a person behind the opposite side of the screen, and I think it helps to keep us honest/polite when it comes to our ooc interactions with other players. It's easy to be mean when you're anonymous, but not so much when you're facing a real person. Everyone should be able to find RP regardless of gender/age/religious and political affiliations. That being said, as I'm well into my thirties, I can usually tell when a player is younger simply by the way they react to things, and what their character finds important. There are always exceptions to this rule, of course! But I am more likely to be inclined to enjoy RP with PCs who have the same goals/mindset as my PC. So I would say that age has less to do with it than PC "maturity", and how well another PC's "ideals" mesh with my PC's. PS, I am so glad to see this game active again! |

I'm a NO voter :)
I know this post is really old, but oh well...
No, who the player is doesn't bother me, what bothers me is immature players we get from time to time. Sometimes I over look them, but other times I let staff handle it if they become a problem. If your an experianced rper then I'm good, if not I tend to put little effort in it. I don't judge if your not that good at it, even I was a beginner at some point. However if you are a player who looks like The Creeper on Jeepers Creepers in RL then... yes I would have a problem... he creeps me out... |
