One evening plots: what worked?

I would like to create some short, one-off plots (perhaps "incidents" or "adventures" might be better terms) that can happen in a single evening with a bare handful of characters...even as few as two or three. Many of us have been around in the game for some time, and I believe that such plots have been run upon occasion.

My question to you is: which of these plots do you remember fondly and as having provided lots of fun for a few hours?

I'm not looking to duplicate these plots, but rather to come up with short plots in the same vein (or artery, as the case may be). Props are always possible, but I'd like to keep them confined to things we already have, or at least things we have with a minimum of modification.

I want to see some action in Arkham. Help me out here.

One of the early "one-off" type of events that I recall with some fondness began with a crying noise. We (Ollie, Mars, and Silas) eventually tracked down a little girl who had lost her kitten. It was in the sewer. And we had to go find it in there.

Really simple, nothing paranormal involved, but it was a fun little RPing experience. The little girl would only whisper to the female who was with us.

What I liked about it was that it was a diversion from the nothing that often occurs. Further, it specifically wasn't paranormal. So it didn't have to be part of something bigger. It didn't include some unexplained mystery that would never be explained. It was just what it was.

To give a flip side of this, the sewer monster, who came around for a number of days a while back bothered me. Not so much that we had a monster running around campus, but because he would show up, menace, and then leave, and there was no mechanism IG to figure out why he was doing it, why now and not 3 weeks earlier or later, and then why he stopped abruptly. I absolutely do not like plots like that. I don't mind mystery, and tracking stuff down (in fact I thoroughly enjoy that); I just want plots that involve that to be set up in such a way that you can reasonably do that.

I've been cruising the forums during lunch today and thought I'd bump this. Coming up with things to do lately has been fun and sometimes dangerous (thanks Evan Davis!) but I think an occasional mini plot is a good idea. And I'm with Ollie on the monster thing - what did ever happen with that? Unfortunately I don't have any good mini plot ideas atm, so post guys, post! I'll try to come up with something in the meantime.

So I remembered something silly this morning. Once a very long time ago a small bottle of love potion appeared for a night. Upon drinking it one would instantly fall in love with the next person one saw move. Silly, I know, but I remember it being pretty funny at times to rp. Of course, we had a bigger audience then so something like that might not always work, but anywho. My random thought for the day!
