I think an easy way to make caps is:

Your basics cannot be higher than the combined total of your subskills.

Wow Delirium, you should remain in a permanent state of demi-drunkenness.

*considers*

Actually, no... your posts are going to resemble Roadstroms' novellas if you keep on like that.

Anyway, back to the discussion at present.

Yes Drage, but there -are- physical limits to how strong/fast/agile someone can become. No matter how much you weightlift, no man is ever going to match the strength of the Incredible Hulk. Despite what old Kung-Fu movies say, you can't study your art and master your chi to the point where you can catch bullets between your teeth and live.

Soft caps don't mean you cannot continue to train your character. Soft caps give a realistic point where you don't necessarily -have- to continue to train to be a damned good fighter. And you won't need to worry about mob creep and Auto-5's so much- if there is a feasible limit of sorts (in the sense that no matter how many ranks you have, the advantage you gain from it is not significant enough to unbalance the system) to how strong you are, foes can remain at the same strength.

Acctually, I can catch bullets with my teeth. I'm a 15th degree neon-orangebelt in KaraKungTaeJuiAikido. I have mastered my Chi to the point where I can fly. As a matter of fact, I have the ability to lift even -you-, Mast3rMind.

Of course you can't catch bullets between your teeth Mast3rmind, thats just silly. But in you hand, sure. *eyeshift*

Actually, I have seen someone get shot in the hand because at the last minute he put it up to 'protect' himself. Didn't do much but he's still alive. But that wasn't from training, probably more from adrenaline. Still, human capabilities go beyond what people think they can accomplish. This incident proved it to me.

Yep. I firmly believe that we, the human race, have the ability to do some AMAZING things, if we can only train ourselves to access it. I mean, we use 10% of our brain...What does that other 90% do? Ever watch Superman? Well, I think that Superman isn't too far off, if at all, from what we are capable of if we could access the other 90% of our brain to it's full extent and with much practice.

Delirium should try staying sober. Maybe if she was, she'd see the irony in criticizing a game, but coming around for the worst part of it, which would be the forums.

For permanent death, all there needs to be is a clear, concise set of rules for death. Than set aside one GM who'd give the aye or nay to the @request. There would be a limit of one PK per half year per player. That should keep the number down.

Andrew.

I'd make me a GM. I'm brilliant.

I'd make Andrew a GM too, but he'd be that last one from the playerbase.

I mean, we use 10% of our brain...What does that other 90% do?

Once again, this is incorrect. Its a medical myth. Granted, the brain is the most complex known 'thing' in the universe, and we don't know as much about it as we'd like to. But despite the complexities, its reasonably clear that every squishy region of the brain is there for a reason, performing some function in our lives. Read, "The Dragons of Eden" by Carl Sagan. Also, if you can show me data to support this "10%" myth, fine! We'll get a discussion going in a new thread.

This myth, I believe, grasps its roots in the optimists outlook for a better future than the one we seem to be waging. If, says the optimist, we only could unlock those vast hidden compartments in our brains, then the answer would surely come to us with dazzling insight. Wouldn't that be nice? But every day, people choose to do the right thing anyway. Isn't that choice to do right or wrong, in the end, our decision, utilizing exactly the brains we are have? To say that overwhelming portions of our brain are in some strange kind of null-storage, open only to those special humans lucky enough to find a key is not only wrong, it is to miss the point entirely. Our destiny is in our own, very capable hands.

-applauds- Good post Delirium, excellent idea Levehtitteh.

Another thing that may seem miniscule about a design approach to a pk system is armor and weapon sizes. This however is a major portion of a pk system. You don't normally jack up someone if you can't use or wear the item(s) you're after.

Granted, with all the huge muscular iridinians with terror for faces running around, there'd be a lot of slaying in those ranks over loot, comparatively. Alas, for someone like who I was, or Grolph we'd be safe from just about anyone. Actually, I would probably be safe from Grolph.

Histasius stands on his tiptoes, puffing his chest out.

Histasius towers mightily over Grolph.

They have no investment in the world? Tell me if Calgar ever saved anyone or would need to be called 'hero'. Those two characters have nothing else than ranks.

*goes off to make a trident wielder to train up to rank 50 in throw and wait for a PK system to be instaured*

Why does being a hero constitute the only good roleplay? Calgar's character was designed specifically to be the -best- gladiator swordsman around. Which he is. That doesn't require him to be 'good.'

Adroytus is a constable. A damned good one at that. Sometimes those ranks are needed to beat down the disgruntled folks who go 'rogue.' Being a constable makes him good, IMHO.

I don't agree with any PK system limiting the number of PK requests or kills a player/character can commit in a certain amount of time, it just doesnt seem realistic enough.

Or maybe some people should stop being bitter and childish. These are public forums and I have a right to take an interest in a game that I used to play for two years, and may play again if and when I can afford to.

I'm actually not trying to slam TEC, I'm just being honest about my opinions. It's a great game in its own right, I just personally think there are many things that could make it an even better game. Does that mean I'm right? No. Does that mean it'll ever happen? Certainly not. Do I have have the right to post my thoughts anyway? Uh, yeah. Ever so sorry if it bugs you.
