Lightbulb Meanwhile, in Triskellian...

Heyo!

This thread is for people to share a little slice of life in Triskellian. The idea is to give a personal snapshot of what's going on with your character at around this time.

It can be anything you want, from a complete non-sequitur to a description of something important they did today, or even small chunks of important scenes that happened in-game. It can be something you actually roleplayed, or something bluebooked. The only rule is that you have to keep it relatively short. Also, it would be good to put your character name somewhere in the post's title so we can keep track of who we're reading about.

A final note: Please remember that even though you may have read something in this thread, it doesn't mean your character knows about it. Be mindful!

So, Triskellian -- What are you up to?

Ery

"C'mon, 'elp me out 'ere! Ah' been dry fer weeks!"

The bartender watches the angry-looking wolf. It's not the first time she's tried this stunt. He's had to deal with much more threatening folks before...

Ery makes a rude gesture and stomps away to the commons. What's a girl gotta do to get a drink around here?

Never a moment of rest
She tugs her mask securely over her face, tossing her rings aside, the sound of silver and gold on wood.
She drags her rapier from her hip, setting it neatly in the corner of the room, plopping down for a moment sinking into the colorful cushions before letting her eyes drift over various weapons displayed messily before her.

Now what...maybe just a dagger tonight, the docks are quiet anyway.
She slides a few daggers into choice positions, tucking them into her boots and one just at the crook of her hip. She sighs and takes one last look art the masked fox in the mirror, her fur darkly stained with the odd temporary dye
This is where boredom takes us?
She adjusts her mask one last time and heads out the door.

She pushes the needle into the fabric again completing another stitch, while daydreaming. Over in the maple crib a little chirp resounds suddenly through the fancy room. Meepers turns her eyes to the crib to see two little shiny sapphire eyes peering out at her just bagging for attention and to be rescued from the crib. Meepers smiles at the tiny little snow leopard. “I hear you Aine, I guess it is time to quit working and go and have some fun isn’t it?” Aine just responds by bouncing about excitedly. Meepers laughs richly and says to Aine, “Ok ok I get it! That is a diffident yes!”

As she bends over the crib and reaches inside for the little bundle of fur, she begins to think back to when she first met Aine. She always thought her life was missing something, she was always discontented with things…but Aine seemed to fill that void. She began to look forward to Aine waking every morning. She really did have fun being mother it was so fulfilling. She gives Aine a snuggle and turns to change her nappy and go out into the world today to have some fun and to talk with her friends and such. Then she had to sit down to plan a social.

A Siren's Cry

Once again she stares upon the harsh seas, wondering when or if she will return to the horrid city in which she came from, if her child and herself will even survive. Dark clouds surround the ship on which she sails, as well as surrounding her worried mind. Will they survive to meet land again? Madalina hurries to the ladder, escaping the fresh rainfall. Her hand settles against the door to the crew quarters, where her beautiful son rests. Inching the door open carefully, noiselessly, Madalina drifts gracefully toward her child. Her eyes shine briefly as she skims his angelic face, her throat rumbling to him a sweet melody.
------------------------Survival-----------------------------------
The storm has settled, the greens of a new land has been spotted......Gathering the reason for her existence in her arms, Maddy trails behind her brothern Ravask, following him onto the shores of Mon Paradis.

Virendra stands in the center of his room in the Severed tail. His fists rest on his hips as he grins upwardly at rather revealing portrait of himself, "Damn, I'm beautiful." He smiles his deranged smile and glances around his modest room. It's nice, but he could want more. Though he knows that more would cost money. He sighs at his dilemma, obviously putting too much thought into it. His gaze eventually turns to the portrait again. All worry washed from his head, he grins, "Damn, I'm beautiful."

Bar Fight!

Ery stumbles after the huge, hulking coward. Shows him right for talking smack about her with his little meows or whatevertheheck that was.

The brute's gone, but there's still quite a crowd in here. She spots a few sailors a couple of tables over. She takes another swig of the whiskey and tucks it securely under her belt. This is gonna hurt.

She lets her best howl out and, pushing off with her good leg, launches herself at the sailor closest to her, fists a-swingin'.

Chaos. Nothing like it.

Stitch one, loop two, over and under. Stitch two, loop three, up and around. Over and over she repeats to herself the count of each stitch striving to make this pair of pants just as good as all the rest of her work. She prides herself on her workmenship and the quality of the work she does even if it's just going to some poor beggar who isn't paying her, she still demands all of her work be stellar.

While she counts her stitches her thoughts trail to her best friend and courtier, Jahren. She dreams of the day he will ask her to marry her and wonders if all the rumours she's been told about him are true and decides she knows him better then anyone and believes in him.

All her fears about not being good enough and her insecurities about being a lone little rabbit in a big city, that eats up good girls like her up and spits them out with nothing left to hold onto but what is left of their pride, melt away when she imagines Jahren's face. Darn, yet again she pokes herself with her needle. She giggles and blames Jahren for the thousandth time for distracting her when he isn't even around.

Abject failure.
She rowed the dinghy out as far as her arms could manage. The voice of her betrayer lifting thick over the crashing waves and the wind blowing through her hair.
There on the horizon, a familiar glint of red, the stark white canvas gleaming in the dying light, the sky burning in the suns sanguine fall. The Bitter Portend rose and fell against the waves, silently lurking toward her. She lifted her fingers to her lips and let out a long, shrill whistle. The ship bucked and groaned as it slid in behind her, a coil of rope dropping to meet her outstretched hand. She coiled her forearm into the rope as the crew lifted her. Her eyes falling to the wolf swimming toward her, bellowing, demanding for her to stop. She called down “Go home…go back to your life.” And the wolf faltered. Her 1st mate shrouded her in a large burlap blanket, a deckhand placing her long lost hat atop her head.
Her 1st mate called to her over the grunts and general din of the ship. “Friend or Foe Captain?”
Omen once again leveled her gaze at the bobbing wolf, treading close enough to hear”Neither.”
She turned away and stepped onto the deck, sweeping her eyes across the fresh new faces and the cleanly swabbed deck, a few fearful hands watching out over the rails spying for other ships.
She adjusted her hat, clean and dry and exhaled, somehow relief had come, her lust sated only by stepping aboard.
“Hang the binnacle list and bring them all to stations, we make for open water” Omen muttered, a coolness creeping into her voice, her eyes reaching for the horizon.

She’d lost herself in Docktown.

Relentless

She opened her eyes to the unfamiliar room, her gaze focusing ever-so-slowly. Then, suddenly the room was no longer unfamiliar, but one that held many memories. Madalina sat upward in the large bed, outstretching her arms sleepily. Her eyes met the painting on the wall, and it seemed to smirk at her tauntingly. Her heart skipped a beat, her stomach rolled with a sickness that she had met with several times before. Lowering her eyes to the bed, she realized she was alone. Where was he? Did he leave her in the middle of the night? Why was she even shocked, its not like he hadn't done so before. He's probably off to go find the young girl they had spoken to briefly before retiring. Omen, was her name, Madalina thoughtfully recalled. She remembered the burn on her heart she felt as she watched the girl walk away from them, she almost stopped her herself to release him back to her. The pain in her eyes was heart-breaking, Maddy had felt it from the same man many times before. She felt selfish, but she didn't chase him down. He said it wasn't right for him to act like he wanted the young girl if he still loved Madalina. The entire city knew it was almost impossible for them to stay apart from eachother. But did a third heart have to be involved, this time not belonging to herself? How could she go through with this? She felt her heart sink, knowing that her fears were probably truthful, Madalina slipped her boots on one foot at a time. "May the Light guide me."

Sleepless.

Gemma woke with a start, her dark chocolate hair was mingled with sweat and clung haphazardly to her face.

She eased herself into a reclining position in bed - it was okay, there were no nightmares here inside the safety in her room, just a small companion.

Laying beside her, three year-old Torin slept deeply; he was completely unaware of her current distress but, as far as Gemma was concerned, this wasn't a particularly bad thing.

With great reluctance, she slid from the heavy woollen blanket that she had rested beneath and slowly detached herself from the mattress.

She wore no clothes to bed but was unashamed, as many might have been, of showing her exposed body to the barely-dark room. This was how she had been raised, and she was more comfortably this way.

Her mind was a whirl of worries and doubt, a myriad of different emotions clung to her like burrs to the fur. She shook her head frustratedly as she meandered towards the small chair beside her vanity table.

Sitting heavily on the padded seat, she slumped across the crowded surface of the vanity. She crossed her arms, resting her chin against her forearms and gazing steadily at her own reflection in the dimmed morning light.

She'd had another nightmare, another wordless terror to haunt her in the sleeping realm, and more faces that she's never remember.

Something was keeping her tense - keeping her alert - and now... Well now there was no one left to talk to. It was just her and the sleeping child who obviously continued in his own dreaming whilst she was forced into a frightening awakening.

Tucking her head further into her arms, she tried to calm her mind of thoughts.

It was hard, keeping secrets...

The night watch; Walking lightly across the quarterdeck, he checked each knot, testing the rigging under his weight. The sails even now bundled neatly, the anchor weighed and most of the men asleep. .

The fire; From the porthole Omen could see the distant bonfires lit by the primitive tribes residing within the swamplands, her eyes listing back to her charts, plotting carefully, the route she intended to take. The men were sleeping, she was only sure because there was no song, no drunken brawls breaking out above her. She turned from her desk, facing away from the porthole. counting her steps she walked out into the bowels of the ship, the sounds of men snoring and the ships cook clanging away in the fore galley. As she rose to the deck the sharp sea air snapped her mind back into place, her face contorting faintl as she squinted out at the horizon. For just a moment, the small merchant vessel rocked against the waves. The moonlight glinting off of what could only have been a looking glass.

Omen beckoned the night watch, murmuring quietly,"To quarters, and walk softly, I want that ship and fast."

The night watchman nodded and made his way below, rousing the men, and carefully waking the quartermaster. The crew oozed from the bowels of the ship, taking up stations at a few of the swivel guns, the sails unfurling in the crisp night air.

No one was really awake until the first broadside was called for. WIthin moments the air was full of powder smoke, and the yells of the men as they corrected and let loose another volley.....

A few days earlier, late in the evening...

Georgianna hastened her boot-clad paws down the freshly familiar shortcuts through the city's darkened streets as the short youth hired upon landing struggled in haste behind with a carpet bag far outweighing his tiny frame. She reached the tavern and sprinted through the door, up the stairs and down the hall to her long-abandoned quarters faster than she could even retrieve the key from her purse strings. With impulsive haste she shoved the key into the keyhole and turned, her heart racing with every pin that dropped neatly into place. The door swung wide; heavy and loud with the weight of eighteen months of disuse. Light flooded into the space as she sprinted through and recklessly tore dust guards off every surface and furnishing before retiring to the center of the room, heavily panting. She turned slowly in place, taking in the garments that hung with their bright, unadulterated rainbow colors over everything in the room of her fondest memories. She spun faster and faster, giggling more and more irrepressibly with every twirl before falling face first into a nearby pile of fine silken garments. She was home.

Having finally caught his breath, the now stunned porter dropped the carpet bag unceremoniously in place before fleeing in terror from the room. He was thoroughly confused.

Virendra stood over the anvil broodingly. Staring down at the smooth surface that had seen much work in the past couple months. Was he really getting old? He glanced over at the mirror and saw the chubby, thirty-three year old reflection peer back at him. He sighed and muttered, "The coffee is too bitter, the sun is too hot, the sky is too blue, and the grass is too green. Perhaps...the grass will be browner on the other side of the fence?" He abandoned his work at the anvil and paced around his room, "That's what we need...more brown, dead, modest grass. Grass that dosn't care about what people think. Hell, maybe some weeds or two. But the grass won't care. It will just shrug it off." He now grinned, "Perhaps...the dandilions will grow white and the breeze will carry off their leaves. And those leaves will infect the brown grass. But that grass wouldn't care. And if the dandilions saw this...they would say 'Well, if that's how you want to be' and they'd go somewhere else. Probably the green grass." He now laughed, "And, of course. The green grass would care. And the dandilions would stay, because of that. But either way, the brown grass would be fine...because it dosn't care." Virendra was probably making an analogy for something, he just didn't know it. Slowly, he returned to his work and sighed, "And while this whole thing is happening, I'll be here in my room working on my anvil...complaining, because my materials aren't good enough." He eyed an iron rod that seemed to have been rusted, and rather mishandled by some previous owner, "But you don't care...do you?"

** On Board the Bitter Portent **

He'd been having quite the pleasant dream, what with the contented ebb and sway of the boat through calm sea waters. Or at least he thought he had been. He was fairly certain there were women involved. At least two, possibly three very well-made wolf women of varying colored fur, each of them smelling distinctly of lilac and something spicy that he couldn't quite name.

And then a deafening crack startled him awake. Startled him to the point that he tried to leap from his bed ... Only his bed was a hammock and it is decidedly difficult to leap from a hammock without tangling a foot somewhere so he tumbled from the hanging bit of mesh and promptly broke his nose on the wooden flooring.

"Drats and curses and what the --?!" Feverrette shouted.

His voice was lost as another crack rent through the ship, followed by the shudder of cannons recoiling into their cannonades. Being a mostly intelligent sort of man, Feverrette needed no further explanations and began to prep the medical bay ...
