Life in the 1930's
Here are some resources posted by various Lovecraft Country players.
Please feel free to share your own resources with the community. Happy Gaming! Willow Shared by Silas Denhuys: The Dirty 30's Ever wonder what Arkham looks like? If you've read some of Lovecraft's works about Arkham, you've noticed that he mentions Federal style house, gambrel roofs, widow walks and alot of other architectural features which you may not have in your own hometown. This page holds most of the styles he mentioned, especially Queen Anne. Victorian Architecture I found a radio website that plays alot of the old radio shows from the 20's and 30's. Being the morbid sort, I particularly enjoy Mystery Play I-Radio, and Horror Old Time Radio. Both fit the mood of LC pretty well. Not to mention the old man probably listened to some of this stuff. There are alot of other stations with comedy, crime thrillers etc. Given the relevance and notoriety of pulp fiction during the 30's, I sought out some examples of the cover art. Since this game would not exist without Weird Tales, I found the covers of issues that will be coming out as 1936 moves along. There was a pulp magazine for -every- taste; you can see the variety here and here. If you'd like to read some of the old stories, just choose between Weird and Action. And for a truly huge list of links concerning weird fiction, pulp magazines and just about anything else, try ThePulp.Net Shared by StoryCoder Arshi: It's not city life, like we live, this is the life of those who were farmer folk way back when where we are today. |

Not sure how long these will remain free online, but for reference, here's a page on sea travel, rail travel and air travel in the 30s.
